SPOKANE, Wash - Families and students who play baseball at a North Spokane baseball field are about to see a major upgrade, thanks to 4 News Now's Extreme Team!
Monday, Mark Peterson surprised players, fans and coaches and announced that the field near Garry Middle School will be renovated as part of the annual Diamonds and Dreams project.
The project, sponsored by Hometown Chevy Dealers and Horizon Credit Union, is a proud 4 News Now Extreme Team tradition.
We received several nominations for the field at Central and Nevada.
"Garry Field has remained unchanged for over 40 years, lacking the necessary updates and enhancements to meet the needs of the community it serves," wrote Garry Middle School coaches Joe Ferris and Bill DeCaro. "The field lacks appropriate fencing and seating, hindering the progress of student-athletes who are dedicated to improving their athletic skills and achieving their goals."
Another nominee says the field is rutted at the base paths and the home plate area gets flooded during any rainstorm.
"It's in very poor condition for our athletes, wrote nominee Brett Kyle. "They deserve better."
"Our community loves the game of baseball," Ferris and DeCaro wrote. "With your assistance, we look forward to ensuring that our passion for the sport continues to thrive for years to come."
Mark and the Extreme Team will get to work and renovate the field in mid-May.
